Amongst the BiPolarBear's symptoms are - I'm not sure whether to class them as hallucinations or not. See, he tends to fade in and out of different wake/sleep states, and sometimes he superimposes dream imagery on his surroundings; but, since he has a pretty good idea of what's likely, he also tends to assume he's dreaming/hallucinating whenever he sees anything weird - big advertising inflatables, singing fish automatons, guys in chicken suits handing out pamphlets.

Anyway, a few years ago, they were putting in a new Baby Gap store in the basement of the Eaton's Centre, and on the hoardings in front there was a billboard-size photo of a toddler. The food court was nearby, so whenever we were in that area it was usually because the BPB's blood sugar was low and he was feeling kind of woozy. Every time he saw the photo he would eye it suspiciously. Occasionally when we were nowhere near the downtown core, he would freak out about the giant baby stalking us. Earlier this year, the sculpture garden on King St. had an installation of an enormous, apparently porcelain baby head sticking out of the ground. "It's a good thing I know I'm awake," the BPB said when we saw it; but a couple of weeks later he remembered it while half asleep and started to freak out. "It was just Art," I tried to reassure him. "The giant baby's name is Art? The giant baby's name is Art. This could be valuble information," he muttered.

Yesterday a commercial ran on tv, which turned out to be for sneakers, in which the camera looks over the shoulder of someone drawing a ball park, as game commentary plays. As the artist adds the image of a big floating baby head to the picture, the baseball commentator suddenly breaks off and asks,"where did that big floating baby head over the stadium come from?" By now you can imagine the BPB's reaction for yourself. Maybe he is being stalked.

Today we're going to the Art Gallery of Ontario with with my parents. I hope he survives. Though the AGO usually causes him to hallucinate iguanas and talking skulls...
