Doc might have a new job lined up, akin to his favourite old job, which was being a software company's troubleshooter in The Far East (apparently they'd sold an earlier version of their wares to the Asian market, and it was cheaper to fly Doc out whenever a bug turned up than it would have been to replace the whole deal.)
