Saw Chronicles of Riddick last night, in which the necromongers smarm across the universe forcing everyone they meet to submit to their death-worship and Dark Deco style - or die! Sort of like Thuggees, or really really military Goths.
For the record, I happen to think “we kill everybody ‘cos we worship death,” isn’t really any sillier a villainous-civilization motive than “we use our superior strength/machines to conquer and enslave, because we need weak and primitive beings to do our work,” or “we must conquer the humans before they find out they’re the only ones who have the power to destroy us, although if we left them alone they’d have no reason to try.”
I was a bit puzzled by the villainess. Unlike everyone else, I didn't actually find her annoying, but - she's the sole member of an apparently humourless religion that fanatically worships death and destruction who can't keep an ironic tone out of her voice. You'd think she'd have long since been put to death for heresy, and yet she's the wife of their leader. Do the other necromongers just not notice her rolling her eyes whenever they speak solemnly about the Underverse, or what?
