ETA - after watching several Youtube vids, I discovered to my surprise that this is one Welsh name actually pronounced like the spelling. In related news, I'm now awaiting an opportunity to write about Wales pwning someone or something.

Not sure I see the resemblance. I've always seen Predator influence as more oceanic. ;)

However, this horse head on a stick thang is what I know at a Nithing Pole. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nithing_pole I have one here - I should get some pix of it. We call it the pony scarecrow.

It was really just from one particular angle.

The Mari Lwyd, as I understand it, is a festive Christmas/New Year's mumming thing; so sort of the opposite of a nithing pole, despite the resemblance.
