Welp
We now have a kitten named Beatrice. I’ve placed her carrier in the bathroom with the carrier door open and the bathroom door shut. We’ve been warned that she comes from a feral colony and is generally friendly towards other cats, but wary of humans. Nana is puzzled and curious, but has only hissed once so far.

Tip: if you're dealing with a feral kitten, after she gets used to you, put her in your lap, gently hold her so she has to stay there (if she fights too much, let her go, she's not ready). Once she's still, pet her in slow strokes. Perhaps you can pet her that way somewhere else. But I've found the lap helps the kitten make the connection "feels good= hands = person who owns hands".
Doing that a bunch of times tends to bring them around.
