Don't know what to say about Connecticut. As with the Virginia Tech shooting, I'm trying to focus on the heroism of the teachers who each made the individual decision "anyone trying to get to these kids will have to get through me first."

Roger Ebert had a very good movie based comment. He said that after the Columbine shooting somebody interviewed him and asked if he thought that violent movies caused things like this. He said that it was much more likely that the TV news industry caused them. Every time something like this happens it gets a logo, a sting of theme music and 24/7 coverage with attempts to analyse everything about the shooters. So the message to disturbed kids is that if you do this you'll be famous and everyone will try to understand you. You'll go out in a blaze of glory.

Of course this interview was never aired and they got some other talking heads to say that movies were to blame.

There's also this: http://kita0610.livejournal.com/869390.html?style=mine .

Comments also include a link to an article I saw earlier by the mother of a kid with violent issues, with a warning to brace yourselves before the comment thread on that one (it isn't so bad -- it's two-thirds sympathetic, and only one third "YOU'RE the reason your son is acting out.")

Ugh, I need to stay off the news feed. I'm starting to see a lot of comments along the lines of "and this is why we need to lock up/castrate/kill everyone with Asperger's before they do something like this." Grr.
