Catching Rivets on the High Iron

This morning on the way into work I began thinking about the iconic photo of 1930s ironworkers eating lunch on a girder apparently suspended 69 stories over New York. Seems someone else shares my belief that the photo, though real, isn't *quite* as dangerous as it looks:

Remember, old-time skyscrapers had a stepped structure.

Love the old Popeye and Loony Tunes cartoons where they toss the red hot rivets on those old tyme construction sites around like juggler's balls.

I started thinking about this because I recalled the one bit I've ever seen from the Fleischers' Hoppity Goes to Town was when our bug hero is actually *in* the bucket, dodging the red-hot rivet as it rattles around.
