Stage Fright

Aughh! Why did I write this! Now I have to read male characters with British accents without sounding stupid. I figure the best plan is not to overdo it, maybe just the odd vowel or inflection here and there.

I tried watching clips from LoTR. It didn't help.

Neither did this.

Yeah, I think that really is the best way to go. I mean...in "Heart's Hole", the narrative POV is a person with a thick Glasgow accent, but I just confine that to their dialogue. The internal voice might as well be Canadian, so as not to risk tearing out my throat.

Also, Steve says to watch clips from Frasier of Anthony LaPaglia playing Daphne's brother Simon Moon. You can't fail to be better than him, especially since he's supposed to be from Manchester and he sounds like a Cockney who grew up in Australia.

I figured I'd use Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins as my negative example.

Bwahahahahaha. Not that Americans can hear the difference, mind you.
