Do you have a zipper foot, or just a normal one? I find a zipper foot does help, although it's not fool-proof, and I'm developing a preference for invisible zippers, because with a proper invisible zipper foot, it's really easy to put them in neatly, as the foot pulls up the teeth and guides the needle to stitch in exactly the right place, as long as you've basted it in neatly! Anyway, I feel your pain; I have put my current dress on one side until I can take the time to take it apart, make some fairly major alterations, and try again!
I'm not related to Owlfish, no; my sister is pregnant (she's just found out it's a girl, she's not due until September). Owlfish and I met through mutual friends, and then discovered that we have several sets of intersecting friends from completely different places. Small World Syndrome!
