Can't Sleep, Someone is Wrong on the Internet

Anyone know how to hide a specific person's posts on Facebook? I don't care if he sees mine, but -- well there's this guy who's a friend of a friend; politically he's at the opposite extreme from me but I've been trying not to get riled by it.(cut for possible triggers - gun violence) However, today he posted about the recent shooting and he went there - he made the comment that "this monster could have been stopped if only there'd been a law-abiding citizen on hand with a gun."

OK.

I am totally a bleeding-heart liberal.

I've never owned firearms myself.

I *still* think I have a more realistic understanding of them than this guy does.

For instance, I know that outside an action movie, good intentions do not automatically equal shooting ability. If a maniac goes on a shooting spree in a public place without prior warning, just how helpful is a bystander with another gun likely to be, unless s/he is good enough to pick the shooter off without hitting any bystanders, in a chaotic situation, while the target is firing back and lots of people are probably running around looking for cover?

If the law-abiding citizen has police or military training, s/he would be able to stay focussed amid the panic; but I'm still not sure s/he'd be accurate enough with a handgun to risk firing back in the $%*&!ing middle of a crowd of civilians.

There's a reason snipers stay above the fray and use rifles.

Anyway, anyone know if there's a way to put this guy on "ignore?" Failing that, I may have to just block him and damn the consequences if he takes offense.

Aren't there little checky marks that can help you under the ghostly triangle to the right of his posts?

Anyway, my response is always that if you want to see a preview of the blythely-arm-everyone experiment, you can always opt for a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Or Somalia. Hey, they've even got small government, too!

Thanks. I've "unsubscribed to his updates."

Hahaha, yeah, Somalia. Small government, unregulated free enterprise, and guns. Does it get any better?

[livejournal.com profile] moon_custafer--I'm glad you got the FB question sorted!

It's a libertarian paradise!
