Maybe I Should've Made the Ants Less Gigantic

The Merril contest has a 4000-word limit, so I've had to take out all the Blakean stuff to make room for the giant ants, which to tell the truth, is an improvement. My protagonist has become more flawed - the story is now mostly about him coveting his neighbour's ant.

Trouble is I'm now at just over 3500 words, and I still need to flesh out the gardening stuff a bit as well as, y'know, wrap up the actual story.

Giant aaaaants
...I think it was because of "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" that I've always thought ants were kind of cute.
Especiallly giant ants.

The coveted ant is, in fact, named "Honey," and she is quite cute.

I wanted to get in a scene of an ant being used to tow a barge along a canal, but I suspect there won't be room. Part of the point of all this is to correct something I think gets forgotten in all the steampunk, which is that the Industrial Revolution was in large part powered by horses.
