Poison Fruit Cake

Just noticed, while doing this on-line jigsaw puzzle, that the fruit garnishing the dessert in the photo appears to include mistletoe berries. That's... disturbing. Who served this? Loki? Hope this was one of those food display photos that was not actually eaten.

Actually, European mistletoe (Viscum album) has white berries, so I think you're okay.

Still... I think a deadly fruitcake is an excellent idea.

It could also have baneberry (http://healthyhomegardening.com/images/gardengeek/white_baneberry_0164.jpg) in it. (Baneberry comes in white and red, but the white is especially ghastly.) And deadly nightshade (http://cal.vet.upenn.edu/projects/poison/plants/slides/1061lg.jpg).

That's what I'm pointing out - the white berries on the dessert, in among the other fruit. I'm not certain they're mistletoe, but I can't recall there being *any* non-toxic white berries.

D'oh! I totally missed the white berries!

... I agree, I haven't seen any white berries that weren't poisonous.

I've had family Christmases where that cake would have been right at home. Loki Fruitcake...I bet someone, somewhere, had made something like that.
