I 'd remembered it because I'd been thinking how a lot of elements currently associated with J-horror can also be found in early-20th British stuff like this and M.R. James... maybe *everybody* thinks hair, wells, etc. are scary.


I woke up in the middle of the night after a nightmare, got up and did the laundry.


I can actually see a connection between scarecrows and laundry... (and M. R. James, come to think of it)
