Last Chance Saloon

Val, the department store clerk in 'Closing Time' who thinks the Doctor and Craig are an adorable couple, looked familiar; so green_trilobite looked her up on IMDb and found she'd worked on Dr Who twice before - in the Davison era as Captain Wrack (over-the-top Eternal pirate lady)in 'Enlightenment;' and in the Hartnell era's notorious 'The Gunfighters' (she sings the endless ballad that accompanies the narrative.)

We rewatched both this evening - 'Enlightenment' was still good; 'The Gunfighters' was actually not as bad as I remember, despite the wonky accents. I like it that the Doctor basically makes them leave at the end because Dodo is 'shipping Doc Holliday/Bignose Kate way too hard.

I still say that 'The Gunfighters' is the worst Doc Who Ever! The Yanks should not try to do costume period drawing room drama and the Brits should not attempt Westerns.

I'd say the Americans have done some pretty good costume dramas in the past decade - they just have to be set in American historical periods (1870s, 1920s, 1960s, etc).
