Cocktail Test Kitchen

SFContario’s in a couple of weeks, and I’m plotting what I can bring to contribute to room parties. I was at a party years ago that served an “apple pie” cocktail (Justified fans can stop snickering right now) that really did taste like apple pie in a glass.

Trouble is, I’ve no idea what was in it and the internet has at least a dozen different recipes.

Bearing in mind that the ingredients are going to need to be portable and not require mulling, I tried one that called for apple juice, vodka, lime juice and a vanilla liqueur I couldn’t find at the LCBO. I tried substituting Galliano, but even adjusting the proportions the recipe called for, it didn’t work – I think Galliano must be much stronger-tasting than the stuff they wanted me to use.

OTOH, sweet cider with a splash of lime-twist vodka is pretty good. I’m probably going to just mix that, possibly with a tiny dash of the Galliano and a cinnamon stick in the glass as a stirrer. I’m tempted by the idea of putting in a wee bit of Goldschlager, but I’m not sure I can justify buying another bottle of liqueur I’m unlikely to use much. Advice?
