Have also decided that unlike everyone else, I’m ok with the monster looking like “a giant chicken,” because I suspect that in a story that was all about sight, someone in production was trying to evoke a basilisk/cockatrice. They did have a bit more luck with their allusions to Perseus and Medusa.
