Dear Town of St-Fill-in-the-Blank:

I appreciate your town website, and that you've made attempts to join the 21st century and promote your Chamber of Commerce in cyberspace. However, I think you might be a little unclear on the concept. Let me put it this way, St-Fill-in-the-Blank: the internet is a very big place, & people who look up your town online are probably somewhere quite far away from it. The street addresses of your local businesses are therefore of limited use. Phone numbers, on the other hand, would be very useful to anyone who might potentially want to give you money.

It's possible, St-Fill-in-the-Blank, that you've heard a lot about cyber-crime & are loathe to give out too much information. This is understandable, and commendable on a personal level - but we're talking about businesses here. Besides, you're already giving out the street addresses. If I really were a homicidal maniac with a mad-on for construction firms, florists, etc., I could find you easily where you live - homicidal maniacs are persistent that way. Compilers of databases for the construction industry (see above: people who might potentially want to give you money have better things to do with their time.

Yours Sincerely,

etc.

Bats

I sincerely hope the Toronto Sun's article on rabid bats is an attempt to tie in to the upcoming summer movie, and not an attempt to scare people with a new animal now they can't froth at the mouth about pit bulls anymore.

At least they mention that you can pretty much keep safe by simply not freakin' picking up wild animals, especially ones that are acting strangely.
