My Civic Duty, Pt. 2

Today I got a letter saying I've been drawn for this year's jury rolls, and I must fill out a form acknowledging this. I've always sort of wanted to be on a jury; but if I do get called, green_trilobite will have panic attacks if I can't get home by the end of the day. Anyone know if they'll accept jurors only being able to work certain hours because of family?

I don’t know how much I’ve gone into it on this journal, but he actually is diagnosed as severely bi-polar, so yeah, getting a doctor’s note shouldn’t be difficult. I just worry they’ll ask how I can go out to work during the day (um, because he knows exactly when I’ll be home, and also I have a mobile?)

Maybe you could explain that, even before the getting home thing, you HAVE to be able to receive calls through the day and will NOT be able to cut your mobile off or ignore incoming calls. That might take care of it right there, as they probably won't want cell phones going off in the jury box.

Yeah...my dad, he's done jury duty twice and one time he ended up sequestered for like five days in the heart of the snowiest winter for ages, so mum and I had to shovel the enormous driveway cos we had no idea how to run the snowblower. Sequestered for five days would, I'm thinking, probably not be a good thing in your case.
When I was there with my note the guy I'd have been ...judging...was actually in the dock, so it's not like you could say, 'I'm totally on board with this provided it'll be a short case with no chance of a long debate' if the accused is an alleged murderer or something.
I dunno if justice keeps a really dependable schedule like that...how often trials run long daily, etc...
