But You Ain't Bonafide!

Came across a tin of Murray’s pomade on the weekend and decided to try it; two shampoos later, there are *still* traces of it in my hair. I don’t think I’ll be using it again unless I can find some way to dilute it. Seeing the tin caused green_trilobite to bring out the DVD of O Brother, Where Art Thou. Now all I can think of is what a ridiculous amount of “Dapper Dan” Ulysses uses, assuming it’s as strong as Murray’s. Yesterday it occurred to me that perhaps there’s a subtext that Ulysses is passing for white – seen this way, his obsession withy keeping his hair slicked down is poignant rather than comedic; it also ties in with his obsession with picking up fake accreditations and his preference for conning people rather than trusting them. My initial google search didn’t turn up anyone else with this reading, though.

Dream Report

Last night I dreamt my parents, brother and I went to London and got lost in a huge store. When we did find our way to the exit I had to go back in look for our coats.

The store had the usual assortment of strange stuff that stores in my dreams carry: when I was trying to sort out our coats from the knickknacks I noticed frozen-charlotte dolls with 8 MB drives built into them; the map of the store indicated it was in a giant pyramid-shaped building. There was a boutique for people who like A. A. Milne, but not Winnie-the-Pooh - it sold reproductions of furnishings from Milne’s house, photos of his garden, etc. (In the dream, Milne had been famous for his gardening skills.)

I had bought a much more expensive shirt than I ever would in waking life, and was frantically trying to get our stuff together before the bus came by. There would be another bus if we missed it, but this was the champagne bus (it may also have served sushi, or that might have been another bus).

Prep

I just spent at least forty minutes hot-gluing sisal rope to a foam-rubber ball. Suspect making display stands for hats will prove to be more labour-intensive than making the hats themselves. Meanwhile I haven't heard a peep from BotB, so this exercise is being conducted in a spirit of purest optimism.
